Preaching in a time of global pandemic: Reflection on the COVID-19 pandemic in the sermons of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren

My thesis deals with the relation between sermons and the listeners' situa- tion; focus is given to specifc pandemic situation of COVID-19 and how this situation was manifested in the sermons of the preachers of Te Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. Te thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part function and versatility of sermons is de- scribed and possible typological divisions of sermons are presented. It also concerns the relation between sermon, preacher, listener and his situation. Brief overview of development of homiletical approach to listener and his sit- uation in the fundamental stages of homiletics is presented. Infuence of lis- tener's situation on preaching and choice of the Bible text is examined; pas- toral aspects of preaching are presented. Te practical part contains brief pre- sentation of the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Repub- lic, focus is given mainly on the frst phase and the impact on religious life and churches in the Czech Republic. Four sermons from Te Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren from the period of the pandemic are refected and analysed as well as the impact of the situation on the form and features of the sermons. Catechetical Aspects in the Work of Rudolf Horský

Katechetické aspekty v díle Rudolfa Horského Catechetical Aspects in the Work of Rudolf Horský Bc. Eliška Chottová Rudolf Horský, a theologian, catechist, bishop of the Czechoslovak Church, professor and dean of the Hus Czechoslovak Theological Faculty in Prague left behind, among other things, his works on catechetical themes. These works, which include, for example, How to Work with Children (Handbook for Religious Teachers and Volunteer Lay Preachers), How to Work with Youth, and A Child in the Living Church, can still be beneficial for working in the church today, especially in religious education of children and youth. The central point of Rudolf Horský's catechetical activities were the Sunday Schools and the Youth Union, that is the institutions aimed at religious education for children and youth. Horský, of course, emphasized the methods that should be used not only in religious teaching, which is also related to the character of the preacher, or a religious educator, i.e. a teacher, who should be properly educated not only in the given issue, but also in the child's soul, in order for the teaching to be as effective as possible. 1

From Denunciation to Humour. Forms of Attacks by Preachers on non-Roman Catholic Believers in selected Czech Sunday Postils

This paper deals with forms of attacks on protestants in bohemical sermons mainly in second half of 17th Century and first half of 18th Century. Although counter reformation has definitely changed confessional conditions in Bohemia after victory on White Mountain battle, protestants persisted as one of most dangerous and strange enemy of pure faith. This attitude aimed mainly to Czech speaking believers and has been persuasively repeated in a lot of deeply influential homiletic works, namely in postils (in Sunday as well as in Feast ones). The aim of paper is inspect the most important Czech Sunday postils and evaluate frequency, strategy and forms of attacks. Excerpted postils were written by Š. Berlička-Scipio, M. V. Štajer, K. Račín, Š. F. Náchodský, F. Veselý, A. Koniáš etc. Some of these postils were clearly published as „a tool“ of strict counter reformation (M. V. Štajer, A. Koniáš), thus shape of their attitudes to protestants should be interesting. Other postils were composed as a manifestation of a moderate process of the counter reformation (F. Veselý); finally, we can find authors with really peculiar way of literary form and type of persuasion as well (Š. F. Náchodský).

P. František Xaver Paleček: Portrait of Czech Vianneye

The thesis deals with F. František Xaver Paleček´s work and his historical legacy to the Czech society. The author depicts František Xaver Paleček´s life, but separated and fundamental work lies finally in the elaboration of his pastoral activity in the region. His numerous sermons, his confessional, club,pedagogical and charitable activities, which made F. Paleček famous during his life already, mainly during his 24-year-work in a Central Bohemian village Kovářov, are analysed there. The thesis also tries to find out his political opinions and his material background as well. It follows his everyday steps in the region. At the end of the thesis it is pointed to F. Paleček´s life after death in memories of many contemporaries, and to his authority in social-spiritual events in the region for decades ahead. This thesis has been worked out on the base of up to now non-published archival sources. Formaly published literature, once secretly printed articles and memories helped to create the frame of the work in the second line, mainly there, where the primary sources did not offer the continuity.

History of the Baptists in Sokolov from its beginnings to the end of 20 century

The Bachelor thesis deals with the development of Baptist Union churches not only in the former Czechoslovakia, but individual local churches in Cheb, Sokolov and Kraslice. In the first part are answered doctrinal point of view, what Baptists believe. Then there is the answer, what personalities and movements Baptist Union was affected. The second part is an excursion in the specific events of Baptist congregations. The largest part of this thesis is primarily a comprehensive overview of the history of Baptist Church in Sokolov in the range of this meeting until the end of the 20th century. Sources from which we drew the Chronicle staff BJB in Kraslice in Cheb, just as we serve the testimony of witnesses who were partakers in the affairs of churches in the last century.
